BSA Expands Cub Scout, Boy Scout Programs to Welcome Girls

Dear Coronado Area Council Volunteers, Donors and Families,

The BSA has announced today (10/11/17) that we are expanding Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts to welcome girls. Below are a few key items to note regarding this momentous change:

  • Girls can join Cub Scouting beginning Fall of 2018.
  • After Cub Scouts, girls will have an opportunity to join an older youth program beginning in 2019.
  • Coronado Area Council and the BSA celebrates the impact our single gender program has on our youth. No unit (Pack or Troop) or chartering organization will be required to welcome girls. Packs and Troops can remain all boys. The BSA is not offering a co-ed program. We are offering Cub Scouts to girls either in all girl Packs or in Packs with girl dens and boy dens. The details of the separation in the Boy Scout program is still undefined.
  • The attached FAQ provides additional details.

I welcome your thoughts and feedback.

Feel free to contact me at 785-827-4461,or email Wendy Shaw, or on my cell phone at 785-246-8850.
