Coronado Area Council Youth Protection Training

Youth Protection Training in Coronado Area Council

Many of you are probably aware that BSA has adopted policy that now requires Youth Protection Training to be taken annually.  In Coronado Area Council this should be a painless transition, as we have committed to annual renewal on a voluntary basis for the past few years.  As this change in national policy is implemented, there may be cases where the BSA database does not yet reflect the new requirements and a leader’s record may show current status.  This is simply a case of the records not yet reflecting the new policy.

It has been BSA policy for some time that leaders that have expired must complete YPT renewal prior to being able to re-charter with the unit.  This time of year is the perfect opportunity to renew your commitment to the protection of our youth, and to ensure that you are up to date on training.

There are several ways to complete YPT.  Log on to my.scouting.org and take the training online.  Link to the council website, mouse over the program tab, and click on “training” to automatically launch the YPT video.  Or, watch the DVD version that was distributed in re-charter packets last year- most unit top leaders should still have a copy of it.  Once you have spent just under 18 minutes with the video, contact your district training chairs (or me!) and they will get you updated for another year.

Thank you for your commitment to the safety and protection of our youth!
