Calling all scouts age 7-12!
Coronado Area Council, Westar Energy, and the Climate and Energy Project are sponsoring the Eco-Camp Adventure Days July 16, 17, and 18th in Salina. The first 2 days are open to registered scouts only and the fee is $20/day with the program and lunch being included in that price. Or, if a scout signs up for both Thursday and Friday, the cost is $35 for both days and includes a t-shirt and a reserved spot for Saturday! Check-will be at 8:30 a.m., and the activities will begin at 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. A BSA health form is required for all youth. Pre-registration is required, and all fees are due at that time. For questions, please contact the Council at (785)827-4461 ext. 202.
Thursday, July 16th will be a clean energy adventure at Lakewood Park. Scouts will see wind and solar power demonstrations, and get to build a model solar-powered car to take home. They'll get to learn how to go green with other games and activities, too.
Friday, July 17th will be an organic farm adventure at Cottonwood Farms where scouts will get to learn about growing organic foods and how to start their own compost. They'll also get to plant an herb garden to take home with them.
Saturday, July 18th will be an Eco-Camp Adventure at Oakdale Park. It will be open to the community, but it has limited space, so registration is required. There is no charge for entry that day, but there will be charges for many of the activities. Scouts who attend both Thursday and Friday will receive a wrist band for Saturday's camp that will allow them to do all the activities for free. Some of the activities include building solar ovens to bake pizza, building a water quality test tube and checking local water quality, games, and an appearance by the Energy Hog.
Going green has never been this much fun!
