This is the Quivira District Day Camp Fire Evacuation Plan, for May 27-29.

*** There are to be NO fires of any type authorized within the camp site at any time. ***

During cub scout day camp, the following steps will be followed in case of a fire:

(Small Fire)

One Leader will immediately control the den and separate them from the site of the fire.  The other leader of that den will assist the nearest staff member in extinguishing the fire.  The day camp director must be notified of the fire immediately no matter how small.

(Large Fire)

In case of a large type of fire, (Grass, tent, range).  Upon notification of the fire, the leaders should immediately account for every boy in the den.  Once all are accounted for the den will QUICKLY and VERY ORDERLY be moved to the School building.  There the staff will conduct another accountability of the dens.  While at the School, further evacuation of the Camp Site will be determined by the Camp Director, and the District Executive.

ANY OTHER QUESTION PLEASE CONTACT THE CAMP DIRECTOR.

MISSING OR LOST YOUTH EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN- At cub scout day camp, as with all scout activities the BUDDY SYSTEM will be used from the start of the Day Camp until the last cub has left the camp.  The camp director will enforce this system, with removal of the cub scout from camp if continuously disobeying this policy.  With the Buddy System in place the chance of a missing or lost child will be next to impossible.  This policy is in effect from the start until completion of Day Camp.

By order of the camp director, any time it is determined that there is a missing or loss child in the camp, the camp director will be notified immediately.  After determining that a youth is missing or lost one unit leader will organize the den and remain with them, and the other leader will contact the nearest staff members, and immediately conduct a search of the immediate area.

If the youth is not located after Five (5) minutes the CAMP STAFF and All DENS will be notified of the situation.

The dens will be told to assemble at their den sites and upon arrival the leaders will conduct an accountability of their den.  After all of the dens have accounted for all of their youth, one leader will remain with the den and the other leader will report to the camp head quarters.

The camp staff members will immediately report to the camp headquarters.

Once all of the leaders and staff members have arrived at the camp headquarters, the camp director and district executive will organize and control an extensive search of the area for the missing youth.

If after Ten (10) minutes of the extensive search the youth is not located, the Provost Marshals office and the child’s parents will be contacted.  The search will continue until called off by Law Enforcement...

LOST AND FOUND- The camp’s lost and found box will be located in the Trading Post.  Leaders need to remind the boys to have their items clearly marked.  Do not leave valuables lying around camp.  The camp is not responsible for lost or stolen items (this includes money.)  We recommend parents put money in an envelope and give it to the den leaders to hold and dispense to the boys at the appropriate time.

HAZARDS- Hazards of any kind should be reported to the Camp Director or one of the staff personnel.  Hazards include, but are not limited to, such things as broken glass, bee nests, poison ivy, hanging tree limbs, etc.

BOUNDARIES-Boundaries will be observed by staff members and campers.  They will be pointed out to all staff members. These include the School Grounds and ajoining fields. ,

If there are any questions, as the Camp director.

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES + ILLEGAL DRUGS-Alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs of any type will not be tolerated in the camp.  Possession of these items will mean automatic dismissal and arrest.  There will be no refund of camp fees.

FIREARMS, AMMUNITION, BOWS AND ARROWS-The camp will have available BB guns, ammunition, bows and arrows needed for use as part of the camp program.  Personal equipment and ammo is not allowed in camp.  If brought, it will be locked in storage until the end of the day and then returned to the parents.

EMERGENCY DRILLS AND PROCEDURES- The signal will be three (3) long blasts on a car horn repeated at one minute intervals as needed.

Den leaders will do the following:

  1. Assemble all boys in your den and go to your designated point.
  2. Maintain good order and discipline during evacuation.  Don’t panic.
  3. Insure all the boys are present when evacuation is started and take roll call after arriving at the designated safe area.
  4. Get the boys back to the den area in an orderly manner when the all clear signal is given.
  5. Insure that the buddy system is used at all times during the drill.
  6. Report any problems encountered to the camp director.

This is the Quivira District Day camp Weather Emergency Plan, for May 27-29.

In case of inclement weather, day camp operations will be determined by the camp director and the district executive.

In case of MILD inclement weather, Day Camp will operate under an alternate plan.  The stations will still operate using the original activities if possible or use alternate activities based around the station goal.

In case of SEVERE weather, before camp operation beginning, the day camp director and the district executive will make the determination if camp will be cancelled or continue. If cancellation is determined, the Camp Director will notify all pack cub masters of the packs attending camp by telephone or in person.  It will be the cub masters responsibility to notify all the packs campers and leaders.  Someone from the camp staff will remain at the camp headquarters for a limited time to notify any campers that arrive.

In case of SEVER weather DURING CAMP all dens will assemble at the camp headquarter.  The leaders will then account for members of their den.  The staff and leaders will work to insure the safety of the children.  If it is determined by the day camp director and district executive to cancel day camp, the staff, leaders, and camp director will work to notify parents or guardians of the children, so that they can come and pick up their child.
