The National Park system and National Wildlife refuges offer a tremebdous resourse to Boy Scouts and their outdoor program. There are National Parks across America and they offer experinces of a lifetime. There are many within a day's drive and some our shorter trips then that. Experince the Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado where you can spend days hiking the dunes or banch out and hike several mountain trails nearby. Park rates are resonable and can be the highlight of a Scouts year and even lifetime.
Kansas offers the Grasslands National Park as well as many National Wildlife Refuges. The is the Flint Hills Hiking area in Manhattan in protected Grasslands as well.
Rocky Mountain National Park is only a seven or eight hour drive from Western Kansas and can be the perfect place to do wilderness camping without having to get on the waiting list for Philmont.
