RELIGIOUS SCOUTING AWARDS
During the summer of 2010, two religious scouting award classes were held involving Cub Scouts from Pack 20, sponsored by St. Mary Queen of the Universe Parish, and Pack 2, sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church.
Under the guidance of Father Nick Parker, former Associate Pastor of St. Mary’s and Father Peter O’Donnell, Associate Pastor of St. Mary’s, three Pack 20 Cubs earned the Light of Christ emblem. The purpose of this program was to help the Cubs develop a personal relationship with Jesus and to come to see Him as a real person and their friend. Cubs earning this award were: Evan K., Nathan M. and Kameron S..
One Pack 20 Cub and two Pack 2 Cubs earned the Parvuli Dei (Little Children of God) emblem. This group also completed their requirements under the guidance of Father Parker and Father O’Donnell. The purpose of this award was to help the Cubs become more aware of God’s presence in their own lives, in their families and in their community. Completion of a workbook, family, church and community activities, Bible reading and the construction of a banner were some of the requirements for this award. The Parvuli Dei recipients were: Sam S., Pack 20 and Austin V. and Xavior W. from Pack 2.
The Cubs received their awards during the 8:30 Sunday Mass on Scout Sunday, February 6, 2011. Their workbooks and posters were displayed in the Parish Hall during Pack 20’s and Troop 20’s annual Coffee & Donut “Thank You” to the Parish for their sponsorship and support of the Units’ programs and fundraisers.
St. Mary's Cub Scout Pack 20 Webelos, Eric S., received the God and Family emblem on Sunday, September 19th at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Salina. Pictured with him is his counselor, Pastor Noni Strand, chaplain of Bethany College and family friend.
