High Adventure Programs

Philmont Scout Ranch
The Coronado Area Council sponsors a trek to Philmont Scout Ranch yearly, except the year of the National Scout Jamboree.  The Coronado Area Council, like every local council, is guaranteed a yearly trek.  Our treks are usually in mid to late July to early August.  The fourteen to sixteen day trek varies from year to year.  Some years the contingent drives or takes AmTrak directly to Philmont and other years, they have rafted on the Colorado River and toured museums.   We have taken anywhere from two to three crews.  The 2008 trek of three crews is full; however reservations are being taken for the 2009 trek.

Experience High Adventure in the rugged & majestic 137,000 acres in the Sangre de Cristo mountains of northeast New Mexico that we call Philmont Scout Ranch. Philmont Scout Ranch, the Boy Scouts of America’s premier high-adventure base challenges Boy Scouts with more than 200 square miles of rugged New Mexico mountain wilderness.  This 12-day backpacking trek offers young people many ways to experience this legendary country.
